The Southern Sydney Freight Line opened in January some three years’ late and $700m over budget (SMH 21/1/13). The hold-up and blow-out were attributed to needing to move utilities such as water and energy lines during construction. Just going to show that good up-front utility investigation and planning is essential in large-scale infrastructure projects.
